Disciplined – yes. Not be offered another chance – no.
Powell needs to be careful how he responds. This is, really, a bit more than a “prank”. If he was drunk enough to do this, he also was drunk enough to have gone out in a real car, and clanking down the track in a thousand kg of steel is, as we all know, an invitation to manslaughter.
Andy Powell – like anyone who has had drinking affect his work or family, and certainly who has come to the attention of the law – needs to examine his situation and commit himself to new patterns of behaviour. If he does, there is no reason at all that he should not compete for a position with Wales, and be selected if he is qualified.
We all deserve – and many of us need – second chances. At which point the responsibility is again our own.
